Jama Masjid: There is a ruckus in Delhi’s famous Jama Masjid at this time due to a notice. It is being told that a notice has been put up by the administration at the main gate of the mosque, in which the entry of girls alone or in groups has been prohibited. Seeing the escalating controversy, Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi VK Saxena spoke to Bukhari, the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid. At the same time, the LG requested to cancel the order imposing the ban. As per reports the Imam of the mosque has accepted the request to the Lt Governor and has agreed to revoke the order. Earlier, Delhi Women’s Commission Chairperson Swati Maliwal had also sent a notice to the Imam of the mosque expressing concern over the issue.
Imam’s reply on Maliwal’s notice
Regarding the entry of girls in the mosque, Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari said that whether it is a mosque or a temple or a gurdwara, all three are places of worship and there is no restriction in coming to the place of worship. Even today many girls have come and all were allowed to come. Imam Bukhari further said that all people are welcome at the place of worship, but some girls are coming alone and waiting for their friends. This place is not for this work, it is banned. He also said that this order is not for the girls who come to offer Namaz.
Earlier, Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, had sought an answer from the Imam on this subject by tweeting, she wrote, “The decision to stop the entry of women in Jama Masjid is absolutely wrong. As much as a man has the right to worship, so also a woman. I am issuing notice to the Imam of Jama Masjid. No one has the right to ban the entry of women like this.

Answer of the mosque administration on the dispute
The PRO officer of Jama Masjid said that entry of women has not been banned. He told that when girls come alone, wrongdoings happen, reels videos are made. There is no restriction on family or married couples here. In the past, the shooting of music videos in the mosque was banned. An old board at the entrance of the mosque read “Shooting music videos inside the mosque is strictly prohibited.” Sources in the administration claimed that people who behaved inappropriately were being stopped and not all women were being stopped.
