Company opened in Nagpur
At that time Mumbai was the first choice of businessmen for textile business. But, Jamshed ji used to think differently about Tata business. He started a textile company in Nagpur, Maharashtra in the year 1874. There was a big reason for opening the company in Nagpur. There was a lot of cotton cultivation around Nagpur. There was a railway station nearby here. Because of which clothes could be easily transported from one place to another. Jamshed ji had initially invested Rs 1.5 lakh in opening this company.
Half of the property was donated to open the college
Jamsetji was also associated with social work. He donated a lot of money to open many schools and colleges. In September 1898, Jamsetji announced the establishment of a Science University. Such people say that he donated 30 lakh rupees in those days for the establishment of this university. It is said that this amount was half of Tata’s entire property.
Jamshed ji wanted to export clothes abroad as well. For this, a shipping company was started in the year 1973. For this he hired a ship from London. Its monthly rent was about 1000 pounds. Jamshed ji was also very interested in silk industry. He spread this business in Mysore State. In today’s time, the name of Jamshedji’s Tata Group is spread all over the country and the world.
