Rahul targets media in Indore
Questioning the role of the media, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that instead of the problems of the unemployed, farmers and laborers, the news media is giving special preference to politicians, film actors and cricketers sitting at the top of power. Gandhi said in a meeting at Indore’s Rajbada intersection, ‘We tell the press to talk about unemployment, farm loan waiver, farmers and laborers, but they (media persons) tell how Aishwarya Rai is dressed or Shah Rukh Khan. What did you say or how did Virat Kohli hit a four?
Media diverting public attention from basic issues
He claimed that instead of fulfilling the real democratic responsibility of being the voice of the common people, the media was diverting public attention from basic issues. Gandhi said, ‘When you change the news channel while watching TV, you see (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi on the first five channels and (Home Minister) Amit Shah on the sixth channel. But you will not see the face of the farmer and the tears of the laborer on the channels. Attacking the central government regarding demonetisation and GST, the former Congress president said that both the steps have caused the biggest loss to the country.
He said that demonetisation and GST have done the work which the Chinese army could not do. He also said that if the Congress government is formed in the next assembly elections, he would ask his partymen to develop Indore as India’s biggest logistics hub, the way Chicago was developed in the US.
