Eunuchs also have many responsibilities in the empire of Mughals. Like taking care of the women of the royal family in the harem because no man was allowed to come here. There were many eunuchs in the Mughal Sultanate, but Javed’s name was recorded in history. Safdarjung, who was the Nawab of Awadh, gave a crushing defeat to the Afghan invader Abdali. After this victory, the Mughal emperor Ahmed Shah declared him the Wazir of the Mughal Empire on 29 June 1748. Safdarjung’s status started increasing with time, but Kinnar Javed did the work of challenging him.
Javed knew how to use his brain on the spot. He did exactly the same. After being declared Wazir, Safdarjung lost a battle with the Pathans in 1750 and returned to Delhi. Despite having 70 thousand horsemen in the war, he got a strong defeat. During the fight, a bullet came out after touching the jaw and he narrowly survived.
When the eunuchs started showing their clothes
When he came to Delhi after his defeat, Javed started showing him his charm. Historian Michael Edward writes that there was a tradition in the Mughals that the Vizier who was defeated in the war should step down from his post. Javed reminded Safdarjung the same rule of the Mughals. Safdarjung did not want to lose the post of Wazir at any cost, so he gave 70 lakh rupees to Javed as a bribe. Along with giving this amount, he made sure that he does not share this thing with anyone.
When and how did Javed become so powerful?
Born in a lower class, Javed was illiterate, but used to use the opportunity and was an expert in espionage. Because of these qualities, Mohammad Shah Rangila made him the assistant superintendent of the harem, but his fortunes changed after the death of the emperor. He made rapid progress. Javed was made the head of 6 thousand mansabdars. Then he was made the head of the Intelligence Department. Not only this, he was also awarded the title of Nawab Bahadur, he was the only person to receive this honour.
Rajmata Udhambai was behind her progress. According to the book ‘First to Nawabs of Awadh’, Javed had intimate relations with Udhambai. She believed him blindly. He used to spend day and night in the royal harem with Udhambai, the mother of Emperor Ahmed Shah, following the rules. There was a lot of discussion about this in Delhi. Due to the exemption of Rajmata, he became impudent day by day. Started misbehaving with people. Whatever he did not like, he used to cut its roots.
arbitrariness and interference everywhere
Javed and Wazir never got along. Javed had cleverly included many trusted people of Safdarjung in his camp. He even interfered in many decisions of the Wazir and got them implemented. At many places in the Sultanate, after removing the man of the Wazir, he deployed his disciples. Safdarjung had understood one thing that as long as he remains there, he will remain a vizier only in name.
murder planned
Safdarjung conspired to kill him to remove him forever. He asked his confidants Raja Suraj Mal and Raja Madhav Singh of Jaipur to bring the Delhi army with some pretext or the other. Both agreed for this. When both of them come to the state, whom will they meet first, the Wazir or Javed, this big question has arisen. Both want the guests to meet them first. It was resolved with the Mughal emperor that he would meet both of them at the Wazir’s house. In this way both Wazir and Javed were present on the occasion. The date was 6 September 1752.
After meeting both, Safdarjung took Javed to a room. First, he talked about the matters related to his administration and then said that I have some work. Saying this he left. As soon as he came out, Ali Baig, who was already hiding in the room, attacked Javed’s stomach. Then cut him with a sword. The dead body was thrown on the banks of the Yamuna.
When Rajmata and Emperor Ahmed Shah came to know about this, both of them were filled with grief. Tears filled both of their eyes. Famous historian Sir Jadunath Sarkar has written in his book ‘Fall of the Mughal Empire’ that Javed’s death deeply hurt the emperor and his mother. It is said that after hearing the news of death, Udhambai took off all the dark clothes like a widow and wore white clothes.
