The government is making changes to improve law and order in Uttar Pradesh. Now the Yogi Adityanath government in the state has decided to implement the commissionerate system in Ghaziabad, Agra and Prayagraj. It has been given the green signal in the cabinet meeting held on Friday. Earlier, the Police Commissioner system was implemented in Lucknow and Noida. Sujit Pandey in the capital Lucknow and Alok Singh in Noida were made the first police commissioners. And on March 26, 2021, the commissioner system was implemented in Kanpur and Varanasi.
After the implementation of the new decision of the cabinet, the number of such metropolitan cities of Uttar Pradesh will increase to 7 where the police commissioner system has been implemented.
What is commissioner system and how much it will change, understand in 5 points
- What is commissioner system: Generally, in the event of emergency in the city, the police officers are not free to take any major decision. They have to follow the instructions issued by the DM i.e. District Magistrate, Divisional Commissioner and the Government. Work has to be done according to their instructions. After the implementation of the new commissioner system, the police commissioner will have more decision-making powers. It has been implemented in many cities of the country.
- Police will get these rights: When the new commissioner system is implemented, the DGP and ACP will get many rights of the District Magistrate. Under the new system, the police commissioner will also get the rights of CRPC. The police commissioner will have the right to order transfer, lathi-charge and firing of police personnel. For this, they will not have to wait for DM’s order.
- Will also get the right to issue licenses: With the implementation of the new commissioner system, the police commissioner also gets the right to issue licenses ranging from bar licenses to arms and hotels. Along with this, the permission to protest and the right to decide the number of police force in a particular area also rests with the police.
- Why there was a need to implement the commissionerate system: The biggest reason why the fast commissioner system is being implemented in the country is the increase in the scope of crime with the increasing population. When the commissioner system was implemented in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that the population of Bhopal and Indore is increasing. There was a need to implement a new commissioner system to prevent crime in cities and to improve law and order.
- In which states the new system is applicable: This system is applicable in many states including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and North. Talking about the cities, the new commissioner system has been implemented in more than 70 cities of the country.
