India’s neighboring country is in alert mode regarding Corona, so now the question arises whether we should worry about it? According to the data released by the country’s Union Health Ministry on Friday, 347 new cases of Kovid were reported in India in one day, after which the number of people infected so far in the country has increased to 4,46,70,830. While the number of active patients decreased to 5,516.
Speaking to News9, Dr. Hemlata Arora, General Physician and Infectious Disease Specialist at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai said that this is nothing to worry about and there is no need to panic. He said, “But cases can increase in our country as well. COVID-19 is the flu and it just hasn’t gone away. Since this seasonal flu is going on, due to which we can also see an increase in Kovid infection.
Agreeing with this, Dr. Suranjit Chatterjee, Internal Medicine Physician at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi, said, “Covid-19 is coming and now we have to learn to live with it.”
Will restrictions be imposed again in India?
In view of increasing Kovid-19 cases in China, many cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing have imposed strict restrictions. Beijing officials say that the negative report of the Corona PCR test done within 48 hours has been made mandatory to enter public places like shopping malls, hotels and government buildings in the capital. Classes have been made online in schools across the city.
However, Dr Arora assured that there is no need for restrictions in India. “We can expect a spike in infections over the next few months, but the chances of imposing restrictions are very slim,” he said.
Dr. Chatterjee said that now the biggest concern is to take care of oneself. He said, “Earlier when Kovid was a new virus for us, it was understandable to impose restrictions, but now that we know about the source of infection and precautions, there is no need for lockdown. People have to take care of themselves with necessary precautions, otherwise the cases are bound to increase.”
He lists some precautions, such as using masks indoors to prevent infection, and optimum immunization (primary, secondary and booster doses) are basic precautionary measures to prevent disease.
BF.7 variant is in China
According to the Global Times report, Liu Xiaofeng, deputy director of the Beijing CDC, said that the Omicron BF.7 variant from a trading town outside Beijing is the dominant strain of the current outbreak of Kovid-19.
However, according to experts, India has nothing to worry about the BF.7 strain. Infectious diseases consultant Dr Ishwar Gilada in Mumbai said that the cases of BF.7 are not a matter of concern. However, he said that the infection is more severe than the previous Omicron variant, but the symptoms are the same as before. He said, “Kovid-19 is now only flu and cannot create havoc. It also has a greater immune escape among vaccinated people than previous sub-variants.”
