Most of the posts are vacant in Gorakhpur Medical College. There are 257 posts out of which 117 are vacant. At the same time, some new medical colleges have started in the past years and medical seats have been increased in many colleges. It is obvious that admission has also been done on these seats through NEET exam. Now the number of students has increased, but who will teach them?
Government figures show that currently 936 regular faculty and 553 contractual faculty are working in medical colleges of UP. But including these only 1489 posts are filled. ‘Contract workers often leave’
According to HT’s report, Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, UP Medical Education Department, said, ‘Filling of faculty posts is a continuous process. It keeps on going. Many times, employees who get jobs on contract leave the job by giving notice. Shift from one college to another. For example, if a faculty working in Banda gets a job in his hometown Badaun, he will go there. In such a situation, the place became vacant in Banda, but that teacher is still on the government payroll.
He further said, ‘We have increased the seats of UG and PG medical. The impact of this initiative will be seen in the next few years. The posts of Falakti will also increase. More colleges in the state will run with the required number of faculty.
While talking to Hindustan Times, former President of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Lucknow Dr PK Gupta said, ‘Faculty is the most important part in a medical college. Their lack can create difficulties for the students.
