Many major changes are going to happen in university admission from the academic session 2023-24. The Maharashtra government has also announced some important changes. One of these is the mandatory of Voter Card. If your age is 18 years or more, then you must have a voter I-card. without you Maharashtra Will not be able to take admission in the colleges of The state government has taken this decision with the aim of increasing the awareness of voting among the youth.
Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil announced this decision taken by the government. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari had called a meeting of Vice Chancellors of all government universities in Maharashtra. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were also present in this. These new rules were announced in this meeting.
Apart from this, the Chief Election Commissioner of Maharashtra Shrikant Deshpande also appealed to all the Universities in Maharashtra to form Electoral Literacy Clubs in the colleges. So that students can be a part of the democratic process of elections. Significantly, at present, 90 percent of the university and college students in the state are out of the voter registration list.
3 year graduation is over!
Apart from making Voter ID mandatory, the Maharashtra government has taken another big decision to encourage youth to vote and connect with elections. That is to finish 3 years of graduation. Maharashtra Govt has announced that from the next academic year the degree course will be of four years duration. It is being implemented under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) of the Central Government.
The government is going to form a committee of former VCs to solve the problems faced in implementing the National Education Policy 2020 in universities and colleges.
In the National Education Policy brought by the Central Government in 2020, a provision has been made for 4 Year Graduation degree course. There is also a rule to give exit option to the students every year. Certificate on completion of one year, Diploma on second year… Similarly degree will be given on completion of four years. Students can leave the course anytime and can join back anytime. The Maharashtra government will soon prepare a detailed guideline in this regard.
